Our Roman Clay Collection honors the timeless appeal of traditional Roman clay—known for its soft movement, subtle texture, and hand-applied depth—while advancing it with a proprietary Iarussi Studio formulation that makes the surface far more durable and wipeable than conventional versions. Applied in thin, artisanal layers, Roman clay naturally creates gentle variation and a matte, earthy elegance. Our process expands its potential through a range of customizable tones and finishes. This collection brings together the history of a classic material with the innovation of our studio, offering a Roman clay that is both authentically tactile and thoughtfully adapted for modern living.

About This Surface

ROMAN CLAY

Iarussi Roman Clay is a versatile plaster finish ideal for interior walls and ceilings. Its soft, tactile surface highlights subtle variations and natural movement, creating a refined, Venetian-plaster-like aesthetic. While white tones show less movement due to low contrast, applying a varnish brings out delicate texture and gentle highlights. Roman Clay can be tailored to any color and finished with a variety of varnish sheens, making it a sophisticated and durable option for modern interiors.

Recommended Substrates

  • Interior walls and ceilings only

  • Not suitable for exterior surfaces

  • Wet areas only with ultra-low sheen or eggshell varnish protection

Color Recommendations

  • Works with any color

  • White tones appear softer and more uniform but gain subtle texture and highlights when varnished

  • Ideal for spaces where tactile, nuanced surfaces are desired

Varnish Recommendations

  • Compatible with all varnish sheens

  • Flat varnish maintains natural movement while offering light wipeability

  • Eggshell or low-sheen varnish recommended for moisture-prone spaces

Interior / Exterior Capacity

  • Interior walls and ceilings only

  • Suitable for living spaces, bedrooms, powder rooms, and other atmospheric interiors
