surface care and durability

Our plaster wall finishes are designed to be lived with. Hand-applied and mineral-based, these surfaces balance softness, depth, and practicality — offering durable plaster walls without compromising material integrity. Understanding how to care for plaster walls begins with understanding how plaster behaves as a natural, layered surface.

Everyday Care

All of our finishes are semi-wipeable and intended for real-world use.

For everyday marks or light stains:

Use a clean, soft cloth or sponge

Lightly dampen with water

Blot or gently wipe the affected area

Allow the surface to dry naturally

Gentle cleaning will address most surface marks without altering the finish.

What “Semi-Wipeable” Means

Plaster is a breathable, mineral surface — not a sealed plastic coating. While it offers resilience, it should be treated with a degree of care appropriate to a natural material.

“Semi-wipeable” means:

Light marks and stains can be addressed with minimal moisture

Surfaces hold up to everyday contact and wear

Aggressive scrubbing is not required — or recommended

It does *not* mean:

Scrubbing with force

Abrasive pads or brushes

Harsh or chemical cleaners

Cleaning Guidelines

To preserve the surface over time:

Recommended

Soft cloths or sponges

Water only, or mild soap if specifically advised

Gentle pressure - Plaster surfaces respond best to a light touch

Avoid

Abrasive materials

Chemical cleaners or solvents

Excessive water saturation

Repeated rubbing in one area

Understanding Durability

Durability in plaster is different from durability in synthetic finishes.

Rather than resisting all marks, plaster is designed to age gracefully. Subtle changes over time — soft patina, gentle variation — are part of the material’s character.

Well-placed plaster surfaces perform beautifully in living spaces, bedrooms, hallways, and feature areas. For higher-impact zones, finish selection and placement should be considered thoughtfully during design.

Moisture & Environment

Plaster performs best in stable interior environments

Avoid prolonged moisture exposure

Wipe spills promptly

Use appropriate ventilation in kitchens and baths

While our finishes are suitable for many interior applications, they are not intended for direct water contact unless specifically specified.

Long-Term Care & Repairs

Minor wear can often be refreshed or repaired seamlessly.

Because plaster is hand-applied, localized repairs typically blend naturally into the surrounding surface. If significant damage occurs, we recommend contacting the studio for guidance rather than attempting repairs independently.

A Material Mindset

Caring for plaster is less about maintenance and more about mindset. These surfaces are crafted to be touched, experienced, and lived with — not treated as fragile, but respected as natural, mineral materials. With thoughtful use and gentle care, plaster surfaces will continue to evolve beautifully over time.
